To save time and money, patients are asked to present the results of recent examinations. For example, OCT, fundus photos, and other examinations made for you. Patients taking medications on a regular basis are asked to indicate their composition, administration dose and duration.

Based on the information you provide,

an individually developed treatment plan will be prepared for you, which will include diagnostic tests and treatment conditions, treatment options and duration, and cost estimates.

After approval of the plan from your side, we will arrange your visit to Riga:

  • Choosing a visit date
  • Applying for a visa for medical services in Latvia (for citizens of countries requiring a visa to enter Latvia)
  • Purchase of travel insurance (mandatory visa requirement)
  • If you have a health insurance policy and you want to cover treatment costs with insurance, you should contact your insurer and obtain a "letter of guarantee" for reimbursement of treatment costs
  • If necessary, we will help you to book a hotel, arrange airport transfers, interpret medical reports and solve other issues related to your stay in Riga
  • If you wish to stay in Latvia or use your postoperative recovery time for travelling, it is possible to prepare an individual travel plan

After the preparation

of your treatment and staying in Latvia plan, a total bill will be sent to you.

By completing and sending the application, and providing personal data, the person consents that the “Latvian American Eye Center” Ltd and associated medical institutions, physicians or medical practices  are processing personal medical information submitted, including, but not limited to, personal data with an aim to develop appropriate examination or manipulation plan, or provide treatment recommendations.

A person has the right to request that such personal data are supplemented or corrected, and cease to process or destroy them if the personal data are incomplete, outdated or no longer necessary for the purpose for which the data were processed.

If you wish to be reimbursed for your treatment services in Riga in your country of residence as required by EU Directive No 2011/24/EU with a transposition date the 25th of October 2013 on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare,

please note:
You are entitled to reimbursement of expenses for scheduled healthcare services received in Latvia according to the rates of health care set in your country of residence if the service is in the basket of services paid for by your country of residence;
Before going to Latvia for a scheduled treatment, you first need to contact the National Health Service of your country of residence to find out the required activities (depending on country of residence, you may need prior authorization);
When receiving scheduled health care services in Latvia, you will first have to pay for all the services covering the full cost at your own expense;
In order to claim for a reimbursement, you must keep all supporting documents of payment (checks, bills), medical records, and other supporting documents;
You must apply for reimbursement within one year from the date of receipt of the healthcare service (please confirm the deadline for submission with the responsible service in your country of residence);
Transport and staying costs are non-refundable;
Only services that are in the paid-for basket in your country of residence are to be paid for.
When guaranteeing patients' rights, in the Republic of Latvia, it is prohibited to discriminate between persons on the basis of their race, ethnicity, color, sex, age, disability, health, religious, political or other beliefs, national or social origin, property or marital status, or other circumstances.
Any patient who is defending his or her rights and consequent interests has the right to seek remedies in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Member State of treatment and the rules of the Medical Treatment Risk Fund. A "Medical Treatment Risk Fund" is a state-organized fund that enables patients to assert their rights and receive compensation through out-of-court procedures. The patient's right to reimbursement is independent of the status of the institution (public or private). Compensation is granted for harm caused to health or life and for treatment-related expenses. The application must be addressed to the Health Inspectorate.
